With Just One I’ll Fly

Number 3 of The Wing Series!

Size: 7”h x 3.5”d

Material: Sculpture with an array of materials.

The following is a small piece of the writing and depiction of such a powerful message provided in my Instagram.

“I stood up with a force that I couldn't describe. You filled me with supernatural strength and courage. It wasn't me, but you. I started to fly with only one wing! I beaten all the giants. Not one left. I carried the children and took them to a safe place, And took care of them while you provided everything.”

Little Saint Peter

Number 4 in the Wing Series!

Materials: Stained glass, Filati, Fused Glass, Ceramic, and a little bit of Smalti.

Tribute to my favorite bird from my childhood. It’s one of five species from the Todidade family, it’s endemic to the West Indies. It’s just 4” inches tall and greets with its song in a happy, festive, and Puerto Rican way. It has the ability to recover from adversity and move on. Tenacious, patient, and hardworking. Family is its priority. So blessed to have been accompanied by him many times on many meaningful walks during my life on the Island. This bird represents the diaspora from my “Patria” Puerto Rico

The Cardinal and Me

Number 5 in the Wing Series!

Size: 8”x10”

Materials: fused glass, stained glass, and ceramic

”I recognize your beautiful singing that unites my soul with yours, your heart, and my heart. Infinite love. That wakes me up reminding me that you are by my side guarding me, protecting me, showing me where the wind directs us. You show me the way. You remind me that breaks in life are necessary. That there are times to fly and others to stay still. Every day we have the opportunity to be reborn, to be restored, to start again. Your singing comforts my soul and gives me hope. I feel you, you lull me, you calm me, you give me peace. You and me, always far away, always close but always united.”

It is important for all of us to understand how our ways and behaviors are placing so many unique species and our planet in danger. It is our responsibility to change, educate our generations, and move on to preserve and keep our planet safe. It is one of the greatest gifts of life that money can’t buy.

One of the most important birds in North American, The Eastern Wild Turkey. For a few months, my life has revolved around this turkey. From doing extensive research on it to looking at photos and their details for long hours before beginning. Every day I tried to reflect on every detail of him in this challenging mosaic.

Focusing on small parts, one at a time, has been the only way to handle it. Even when it was always necessary to observe it in its entirety. He is a beautiful reflection of my history and fascination with birds.

The Work Force Series

THE RUINS BOOTS

A Miner and a Soldier. Parallelism and correlation. Two lives that could finally be the same life.
Every day before the sun rises you have them on, you hug those you love, you walk, you listen to the whistling of the birds, the river, the road. Then your thoughts bloom. Your family, your duty, your mission, the provision that you will find, the song or marching cadence that you will sing today with your companions, friends, and brothers. The pride you feel and the sense that you are part of something important, build a country or protect it.
Then you cross the threshold, darkness floods your vision, and you feel the weight of your boots, the weight of your helmet, the weight of your pick, or your weapon. Your body begins to react, you are on alert. Your senses are sharpened, each step matters, each sound, any smell. The canaries stop singing, your heart stops, your breathing, your thoughts. Your brothers all in silence. The alarms begin, the fire, the shots, the screams, the explosions, everyone runs, all together, all separately, chaos takes over. You cry, you suffer in silence, you question why you come back.
The sun rises again, you hug those you love tighter, you walk, and you listen less to the birds, the river, the road. Then your thoughts bloom. Your family, your duty, your mission, the provision that you will find, the song or marching cadence that you will sing today with your companions, friends, and brothers. To build a country or protect it. For your children to live a better life, progress. Peak to peak, march to march.
They will never again be a simple number, they will never be forgotten. We are now telling their stories
A Miner a Soldier. Parallelism and correlation. Two lives that could finally be the same life.
